Course Description
This course is aimed at installers who have recently entered the industry or have little or no experience in the area of heating system design. The course is particularly useful for candidates moving in to the renewables industry, in particular the installation of ground and air source heat pumps, or for underfloor heating industry where accurate heat loss calculations are of paramount importance. Completion of the course will provide you with a Foundation Certificate, increasing your credibility and giving you the competitive edge, as well as showing your customers that you are trained to the highest of standards.
How long is the course and what is included?
This course is 2-3 days in total. The cost of the course includes training, assessment, the certification fee and any course material required.
What does the course cover?
You will receive training and be assessed in the following areas:
- – Comfort conditions and basic heating and hot water principles
- – Basic system types
- – Heat-loss calculations
- – System design
- – System specification and selection including emitters, pipe work, boilers and pump sizing
- – Sizing and selection of hot water systems
While training covers pipe-sizing and pump-settings etc in theory, they are not part of the practical work. There are questions regarding these in the written assessment. Candidates wishing to progress to more advanced levels should apply for the IDHEE diploma course.
How will I learn and be assessed?
Following completion of the training course candidates will be assessed using a design scenario task and multiple-choice assessment.

Any course material required will be provided by GTEC.

LCL Awards.
You will receive your certificate approximately 4 to 6 weeks following successful completion of the course.
