This 2-day training course is designed to define the main aims of sustainability, the need for energy efficiency and how renewable technology is used.
Course information
This Introduction to Renewables training course delivers a basic understating of all the main renewable technologies, including solar PV, solar thermal, heat pumps, wind generators and biomass.
With this introduction, you will be able to make a fundamental assessment of the suitability of specific renewable technologies.
Training takes place in the classroom and includes case studies that demonstrate the benefits and drawbacks of specific systems and their application. Candidates will also have the opportunity to see a fully functioning plant room encompassing a variety of integrated renewable technologies.
Our expert trainers will help you learn in an informal and engaging environment. There will be a written assessment at the end of the day.

There are no pre-requisites for this course.
The course consists of 2 days in-centre training.
Successful candidates will receive their LCL Awards certificate approximately four to six weeks following completion of the course.
The course covers;
- Energy basics.
- What is renewable energy and why is it important.
In addition, an introduction to the following technologies will be covered:
- Solar Photovoltaics’ (solar generated electricity).
- Solar water heating (solar thermal) & thermal mass storage.
- Air, water and ground source heat pumps.
- Biomass & wood fuel heating.
- Small & medium scale wind generator’s.
- Combining renewable technologies – integration & controls.
For each of the above technologies, the following will be covered:
- Principle of operation.
- Energy application (heat/electricity/motion etc.).
- Basic design & integration (an overview).
- Site requirements (positioning/head of water/ground conditions etc.).
- Energy effectiveness of each (payback and £’s spent offset against carbon output).
- Relative efficiencies of each (if a client is determined to install a renewable technology which will be best for a given situation) – The hierarchy of energy applications in sustainability.
The following will also be covered:
- Case studies to demonstrate, for each of the above, the benefits and drawbacks for each system.
- Summary of most effective systems, Q & A.
- Knowledge based assessment (MCOQ).
