Working At Height Course Information

This is a one-day programme developed for solar PV installers working on domestic or low-angle commercial roofs.

The course covers critical topics. They include fall protection, safety harnesses, fall arrest systems, ladder safety, scaffolding, edge protection, and handling roofing structures. You will also gain practical skills in harness fitting, using energy-absorbing lanyards, and safe ladder climbing.

FAQs

Participants must be in good physical condition.
Participants should bring all personal protective equipment (PPE) issued by their employer for working at heights (a list of minimum expected equipment can be provided on request).

This is a one day course running from 8:30am - 5pm.

Introduction to personal fall protection (WAHSA)
Safety harness & lanyard
Fixed vertical and horizontal fall arrest systems
Fall arrest blocks
Restraint systems
Temporary vertical and horizontal line

Pre-use Checks
Installation (positioning), fitting and wearing
Methods of use, dismantling and defects

Additional Considerations for Solar PV System Installers

Scaffolding and edge protection.
Domestic slate / tile roof structures.
Trapezoidal low angle roof structures including considerations for:
Access
Egress (including emergency egress)
Managing risk associated with skylights
Lifting and handling modules.

Practical skills include:

Correct fitting and adjustment of harness
Use of energy absorbing lanyards
Fall arrest blocks
Vertical fixed systems
Safe ladder climbing
