Initial Verification & Certification of Electrical Installations 2391-50
Learn the specialist skills required to verify new electrical installations with leading electrical training provider, GTEC.
This 4-day training course is certified by City & Guilds (2391-50) and delivers specialist knowledge and skills, including appropriate legislation, inspection and testing techniques, completing and issuing certificates or reports and understanding of results and measurements.
This Level 3 course is suitable for operatives who wish to verify new installations and do not require the Periodic Inspection and Testing element.
Course information
This Level 3 Initial Verification & Certification of Electrical Installations (2391-50) course enables operatives to develop the practical skills and knowledge required to design, install, inspect and test electrical installations. It does not cover periodic inspection and testing.
During the course, you will receive practical training, including work on:
- Purpose-built electrical rigs; and
- Live equipment within a fully functioning plant room.
You will also cover theory relating to health & safety, industry regulations and best-practice.
At the end of day 4, candidates will complete a written multiple-choice assessment and two practical tasks.
On completion of this course, candidates will receive City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate.
Depending on individual requirements, we also offer two alternative training routes:
- 2391-52 Combined Initial Verification and Periodic Inspection and Testing – suitable for experienced electricians who have never gained formal qualifications in inspection and testing or who may wish to update and reaffirm their skills.
- 2391-51 Periodic Inspection – suitable for operatives who have previously gained qualifications in Initial Verification and wish to expand their skills to include reporting on the condition of existing electrical installations.

There are no formal pre-requisites, however, you should have suitable knowledge of electrical theory and ideally be working within the electrical industry or a related sector.

The course consists of 4 days in-centre training.
Successful candidates will receive their City & Guilds certificate approximately four to six weeks following completion of the course.
The course is designed help candidates understand the principles, practices and legislation for the initial verification of electrical installations with regulation and requirements.
Skills and essential background knowledge for the inspection, testing, commissioning and certification of electrical installations are covered within the course, including:

- Requirements for initial verification of electrical installations
- Requirements for completing the inspection of electrical installations prior to their being placed into service
- Requirements for the safe testing and commissioning of electrical installations
- Requirements for testing before circuits are energised
