Learn specialist inspection and testing techniques with leading electrical training provider, GTEC. 

This 4-day training course is certified by City & Guilds (2391-51) and delivers specialist knowledge and skills, including appropriate legislation, inspection and testing techniques, completing and issuing certificates or reports and understanding of results and measurements. 

This course is suitable for operatives who have previously gained qualifications in initial verification and wish to expand their skills to include reporting on the condition of existing electrical installations.

This Level 3 Periodic Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations (2391-51) has been designed specifically for practising electricians who have not carried out inspection and testing since qualifying or who require some update of training before progressing to other City & Guilds qualifications. 

Candidates will develop the skills, knowledge and competency to test and inspect a range of electrical installations in both domestic and commercial properties, including installations undertaken by other domestic installers & electrical engineers.

During the course, you will receive practical training, including work on:

  • Purpose-built electrical rigs; and 
  • Live equipment within a fully functioning plant room.

You will also cover theory relating to health & safety, industry regulations and best-practice.

At the end of day 4, you will complete a written multiple-choice assessment and three practical tasks.

On completion of this course, you will receive City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate.

Successful candidates will receive their City & Guilds certificate approximately four to six weeks following completion of the course.

  • How to test electrical installations prior to them being placed into service.
  • How to produce a condition report with recording observations and classifications.
  • Health and Safety requirements.

  • Factors that affect conductor resistance.
  • Completing insulation resistance testing.
  • Common earth fault loop paths.
  • Methods for verifying protection.
  • Methods for testing the operation of residual current devices.
