GTEC gets the financial backing of the United Living Group
GTEC is excited to announce that we’ve had a major investment by United Living Group, which is now the majority shareholder. We will still be offering the same industry-leading renewables training from our approved locations throughout the UK, but as part of the Group, which provides infrastructure, affordable housing, property services, and telecoms, in the future we will be expanding our offering into related sectors, as well as helping United Living with its own training requirements.
United Living has also taken a majority stake in Heatly, which is headed up by GTEC’s MD, Griff Thomas. Heatly is a new digital heat pump system design tool, designed to speed up, simplify and improve the accuracy of many of the complex processes involved in specifying a heat pump – heat loss calculations and room surveying, for example.
Griff announced this exciting news at the InstallerSHOW (27/06/24).
You can watch Griff’s announcement, alongside United Living Group’s Chairman and CEO, Neil Armstrong, who commented remotely.
Griff Thomas, MD for GTEC & Heatly, said: “I am delighted to make this exciting announcement at the InstallerSHOW, as we come to the end of an event which has seen us introduce the first iteration of Heatly to the exhibition’s visitors.
“As I hope those who have trialled the app on our stand will agree, Heatly is set to be a real game-changer for the heat pump sector, removing some of the barriers to take-up and improving outcomes for installers and their customers. We see United Living’s investment as a key step to making Heatly the go-to solution for wide-scale heat pump deployment.
“Heatly’s cutting-edge building scanning techniques combined with United Living’s reach into infrastructure and other related sectors, means that heat pumps are just the beginning.
“For GTEC, joining the United Living Group is the ideal fit and we’re excited about the opportunities and growth this investment will bring. Like us, United Living is committed to promoting and contributing to a sustainable future, and through their support we can deliver our industry leading renewables training to a wider audience, as well as diversifying across infrastructure and other sectors and directly supporting United Living’s own training needs.
“This is an exciting stage in GTEC’s history, and we’re pleased to have the backing of such a well-respected organisation.”
Neil Armstrong, Group Chairman and CEO for United Living Group, said: “I’m thrilled to be announcing our acquisition of a majority stake in GTEC. One of the biggest challenges for the net zero sector is a skills shortage. There isn’t the trained workforce ready to deliver all the projects that will be required to achieve the UK’s net zero goals.
“That’s why the work that Griff and team are doing is so important. Delivering training that will help us to address that shortfall and developing digital tool, Heatly, to help remove some of the barriers to heat pump take-up and, as a result accelerate the net zero transition.
“At United Living, a significant proportion of our business is about helping our clients to move towards net zero - I am so pleased to have Griff, GTEC and Heatly, joining our team.”
Commenting on the announcement, Charlotte Lee, Chief Executive of the Heat Pump Association (HPA) said: “GTEC is an active member of the HPA, and it's great to see the growth and investment happening in the sector to support the widescale deployment of well designed, well installed heat pumps.”
GTEC will continue to operate as a standalone, commercial business delivering training to the wider market but will also support United Living’s training requirements.

About Heatly
Heatly is a digital tool that makes heat pump system design, surveying and installation easier. Available on a smart phone, Heatly’s clever software supported by a user-friendly app streamlines the whole process of choosing and installing a heat pump. Processes such as heat loss calculations, room surveys and heat pump performance estimates can all be done using a smart phone.
Heatly also provides a communication tool between installers and their customers, tracking the whole heat pump installation journey.
Using the latest technologies, such as AR/VR and 3D modelling, and drawing on extensive industry heat pump and building performance data, heat pump projects supported by Heatly benefit from greater accuracy and collective expertise.
Heatly has successfully passed UAT with a number of major clients and will begin wider field trials in July.
