GTEC adds further training support for Solar PV Installers

Authored by Sam on July 25, 2024

We’ve enhanced our training support for solar photovoltaic (PV) installers with the addition a new one-day Working at Heights course designed specifically for operatives fitting PV systems on domestic or low angle commercial rooftops.

Currently available our headquarters in Hawes, North Yorkshire, which features ‘real’ roofs and PV arrays to ensure candidates get relevant practical experience, the new course will be rolled-out to other GTEC approved centres in the coming months.

The Working at Heights for Solar PV System Installations course joins GTEC’s suite of training for this in-demand arm of renewable building services, including the recent Solar PV for roofers course which has been developed with roofing giant, Weinerberger, and specific training for candidates looking to become SolarEdge installers.

Griff Thomas, MD said: “Working at heights is a key part of the solar PV installer’s role and its essential this work is carried out safely and effectively. We have adapted standard working at heights training to make it specific to the demands of fitting photovoltaic panels, in order to provide a useful course for installation companies large and small – whether you’re a one man-band doing the whole job yourself, or a larger building firm needing to upskill staff involved in the PV installation process.

“Expect more courses from GTEC in the coming months as we expand our offering following our acquisition by the United Living Group. Their backing will allow us to better support building services installers and those in related construction trades.”

About the course:

GTEC’s new Working at Heights for Solar Installers course is for PV engineers, roofers and builders involved in installing photovoltaic systems. Training covers domestic and low angle commercial rooftops.

Taking one-day, topics include personal fall protection, safety harnesses, fall arrest systems, ladder safety, scaffolding, edge protection, handling roofing structures, and managing the risks associated with skylights. Practical skills such as harness fitting, using energy-absorbing lanyards, and safe ladder climbing are also covered.
