This Portable Appliance Test (PAT) Course will provide you with the skills and teach you how to test portable electrical appliances with the Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment. If you are an electrician this course will add another string to your bow and can help you move up in the industry.

Course Description

This course is aimed at those involved in the inspection and testing of electrical equipment and/or managing the process. Managers and electrical engineers will be able to ensure that electrical equipment meet the latest health and safety standards, both theoretically and practically.

There are no defined entry requirements for this qualification. However, it is expected that candidates undertaking this course, should be familiar with electrical systems and hazards of electricity in order to satisfactorily complete this qualification.

Completion of this course show that you will be familiar with the use of the IET Code of Practice for in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment and will provide you with a Level 3 Certification, increasing your credibility and giving you the competitive edge, as well as showing your customers that you are trained to the highest of standards.

 

 

Course Prerequisites

It is recommended that learners should have suitable knowledge of electrical theory and ideally be working within the electrical or a related industry.

 

How long is the course and what is included?

This course is 2 days in total. The cost of the course includes training, assessment, the certification fee and course material.

 

What does the course cover?

The 2 Day course covers everything necessary to successfully achieve the City and Guilds certification and includes both a theory element and practical elements. We will take you through the practical disciplines and formal recording processes, as well as preparing you for the online City and Guilds 2377 test.

  • – Classification of appliances
  • – Preliminary Inspection, test precautions
  • – Using a Portable Appliance Tester
  • – Essential tests

  • – Implementing a test programme
  • – Practical Assessment

 

How will I learn and be assessed?

The course consists of classroom training and a practical test to evaluate your ability to conduct testing, as well as a multiple choice online exam covering the essential knowledge relating to the content and application of Portable Appliance Testing and the IET Code of Practice for in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment.

 

What do I need to bring to the course?

Candidates will require the IET Code of Practice. We can provide these books for you at cost.  Please contact our Training Dept. team on 01969 666111 for further details.

Any additional course material required will be provided by GTEC.

 

Who is the certification body for this course? (Select as applicable)

City & Guilds.

You will receive your City & Guilds Level 3 certificate approximately 4 to 6 weeks following successful completion as all aspects of the course.
